Joshua Guerrero sings the Macduff in MACBETH at the 2025 Salzburg Festival.
The young tenor was born in Las Vegas, USA, in 1983. He grew up in Las Vegas and initially attended seminary with the intention of becoming a priest. But he fell in love with music and eventually worked as a gondolier at the Venetian Hotel Resort in his hometown. His early love of singing was inspired by Andrea Bocelli's song “Romanza” and led him first into the pop culture of Las Vegas before he was accepted into the Los Angeles Opera and Placido Domingo became his lifelong mentor. Guerrero is a graduate of the Los Angeles Opera's Young Artist Program and winner of the Eva and Marc Stern Artist Award. In 2014, he won second prize at the Plácido Domingo Operalia Competition and launched his international career. The singer, who lives in his adopted home of Vienna, is one of the most sought-after tenors of his generation and performs at the world's most prestigious opera houses and concert halls.
