Mario Dalpra 1960

Mario Dalpra studied painting with Arnulf Rainer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, is a sculptor, draughtsman, musician, film and performance artist and constantly demonstrates his versatile talent. He can point to countless exhibitions in Europe, the USA, Latin America, Australia and Asia and a no less impressive series of publications.

His sculptures captivate the viewer with their unusual formal language and strong spatial presence. Standing in front of the sculptures, one feels transported to another, unique world and thinks one is about to encounter a new species. Fantasy creatures, hybrid mixed creatures, animal deities from pantheistic world views, multi-headed snake creatures, female figurations with mystical ritual associations. His highly polished coloristic bronzes reflect inspirations from Far Eastern journeys and longer stays in Australia, Indonesia and India. Fascinated by the joy of colour and the richness of form in his creations, he breaks away from the "western" art vocabulary and takes up the new impressions in his artistic work in an unbiased manner.
