Alois Mosbacher, Manfred Wakolbinger and Alexandra Ehrlich-Speiser

17. Jul 2021 to 11. Sep 2021

On display are three different positions of the Austrian art scene, which nevertheless reveal a common denominator: the interest in man and his environment.

Alois Mosbacher dedicates his painting to the natural space. In the exhibition, works by Mosbacher can be seen that show a forest devoid of people. The harmonious, pastel color compositions seem almost contrary to the tangle of leafless branches and trunks, which harbors an irritating moment in a play with symmetry. Alexandra Ehrlich Speiser explores our digital environment and addresses the possibilities of unrestricted duplication as well as the accompanying dangers that the world wide web brings with it. The starting point for her work are 3D files of weapons from the Internet. The artist manipulates them and thus manages to create unusable weapons ("Useless Weapons"), which she realizes as 2D prints or 3D objects. For another group of works, she feeds an artificial intelligence images of weapons, from which the AI learns and can create "plausible" weapons itself. The artist interrupts this process of creation at a certain moment and thus provides insights into the "thinking" of a machine. Manfred Wakolbinger creates impressive sculptures in copper and stainless steel, to which he assigns thematic focuses. Thus, in the current summer exhibition, the groups of works "Tongues", "Mirrors" or "Galaxies" can be seen, which let the meaning of seemingly familiar objects, body parts or environments shine under new aspects in the truest sense of the word.
