Andrea Bischof 1963

Studied at the Mozarteum Salzburg, painting and graphics, textile design. Since 1989 exhibitions at home and abroad.

Andrea Bischof is one of the most important Austrian representatives of informal painting. The bright colors in her paintings are reminiscent of the French Impressionists. Without grand gestures, in playful lightness, her subtle, cheerful works convey themselves and evoke moods and feelings rather than memories of actual experiences. In radiant tones and pure harmony, her compositions create the lightness of clouds and the summer sky. Again and again Andrea Bischof retreats to Venice to work, capturing the Mediterranean light in her meditative paintings, you can almost smell the south.

"For me, each painting carries different dimensions of time. It has a piece from the past, from the present and from the future. This also applies to the actual creative process," says Andrea Bischof. The process of creating her works is correspondingly long and elaborate. In a careful procedure, the artist, who works in traditional oil technique and often on several paintings at the same time, starting from a complex colored ground, places layer upon layer on top of each other, color tones next to each other, brings the colors in relation to each other. Movement emerges, surface and depth communicate with each other. Andrea Bischof traces the color sounds, sees in each picture first of all the colors, the freedom of abstraction.

Her works can be found in major international collections such as Albertina Vienna, Art Collection of the Austrian National Bank, Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister Dresden and others.
