Laura Nitsche studied at the Academy of Fine Arts (Gunther Damisch) and at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.

Still Life

Laura Nitsche has been collecting handwritten objects of all kinds for years. In public spaces, parking lots, streets, shopping cards etc. The goods of selected shopping lists are depicted by her old-masterly in oil and hung as a still life equal to the framed shopping list. The extended series contains the leftover garbage. It is an assemblage of three framed paintings: Shopping list - Still life - Garbage life. Hirmer published a book in 2022 called "Coffee milk coffee cookies white cheese apricots. An homage to the shopping list." about this and other relevant topics. A contribution on Ö1 was brought in this regard in the series "Leporello"." The still lifes were shown at the "Eat Art" exhibition at the Daniel Spoerri Ausstellungshaus, as part of the exhibition "Food Prints" at the Technisches Museum Vienna and in three other museums in Germany, Sweden and Spain.

NEW at Hirmer Verlag 2022: Can you draw conclusions about a society based on goods? What can be done about food waste and ever-increasing mountains of garbage? Will handwriting be lost as a cultural asset if we only take notes on our cell phones? Laura Nitsche explores these questions in her new book as well as in her paintings. Authors from the fields of art history, graphology, statistics, waste management, sustainability and futurology have contributed poetic, scientific, statistical, sometimes tongue-in-cheek to the topic with their articles: "Kaffeemilch Kaffee Kekse Topfen Marillen. Eine Hommage an die Einkaufsliste"

CoroNah - DisTanz

This series was realized shortly after the first Lockdown. It is based on a performance of two artists who moved - according to coordinated rules - in one space. Thus a natural "dance" developed, corresponding to the circumstances, which Laura Nitsche later painted, cut out, stuffed and sewed, creating soft and haptically experienceable sculptures- in largely touch-free times.
