Maureen Kägi 1984

Maureen Kägi, born in New Zealand, studied at the Zurich University of Arts and the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. She has also explored contemporary dance and performance practice at the Vienna Sports University and Tanzquartier Vienna. The artist's works span a broad spectrum, from painting and drawing to performance and conceptual approaches to space and environment.

Maureen Kägi uses acrylic pens of various colors to generate geometric meshes of lines that often create illusions of movement, fluidity, and blurriness and reconciles these with oil and/or acrylic paints. Comparable to the relationship between the ephemeral and the solid, organic and constructed elements merge according to the principle of suspension, creating a new synthesis. Her practice is characterized by an interplay between chance and control, as well as between refusal and persistence. Through the manipulation of materials, Maureen Kägi shifts their characteristics. In this way, she sharpens her focus on topics such as the acceleration of society or visual myopia and examines resonance relationships with the environment.

Recent group exhibitions include MIP Museum in Progress Vienna, Traklhaus Salzburg, Belvedere 21 Vienna, Bowerbank Ninow Auckland, Berlinskej Model Prague, Haus Konstruktiv Zurich, Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Kunstzeughaus Rapperswil and many others. Her work is part of collections such as the Republic of Austria, the Province of Lower Austria, Strabag Vienna, Soart, The Chartwell Collection, Auckland, Kunstzeughaus Rapperswil, Zürcher Kantonalbank, Julius Bär Art Collection, Art Collection of the Swiss National Bank and Art Collection of the Canton of Zurich.
