Miye Lee, born in South Korea, studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna under Christian Ludwig Attersee. Her works convey positive energy, lightness and beauty. In their individuality, they can be seen as both contemporary and timeless.
Miye Lee's abstract paintings are strongly inspired by nature: a radiant pictorial world that carries great aesthetic appeal and power. While older works on paper and canvas featured heads and circular shapes, often in combination with dynamic splashes of color, the new works are more liberated and have found a new clarity. The energetic, gestural painting arises from the memory of what she has seen and experienced in nature. The tranquillity that the works create becomes a meditative journey into the inner self. The artist herself loses herself in time and space while painting.
The brushstroke and the composition with the overlapping and layering of the paint application testify to great skill. Accents are set spontaneously and strokes are condensed, while Miye Lee leaves the white canvas free in other places. The result is a rhythm of shapes and colors. The pictorial compositions created in this way, usually on a square canvas, maintain an exciting yet harmonious balance.“Many different colors exist next to each other, sometimes on top of each other and influence each other.I am fascinated by the original effect of color, and in particular the interplay between the different colors. Here, too, I am always on the lookout for new, exciting color combinations.”
