Jochen Höller 1977

For Jochen Höller, the creative process begins with the literal dissection of books.

After studying sculpture at the University of Art and Design Linz, Jochen Höller (born 1977 in Amstetten) devoted himself entirely to the medium of paper. The artist composes his works from carefully cut-out words from important works of scientific and religious literature. They are intended to encourage viewers to engage philosophically with fundamental themes from society, technology, economics, politics, religion, and culture.
Jochen Höller states, "Texts are my foundation, books my material—their content creates a conception of the world—but a changed perspective allows us to understand it differently—the world is, so to speak, a series of relative truths—or is it never as it appears to us?" For his outstanding achievement in the field of visual arts, Jochen Höller received the Recognition Award of the State of Lower Austria in October 2025.
Jochen Höller lives and works in Vienna.
